Much of America was shocked when Casey Anthony was acquitted of murder in the death of her two year old daughter, Caylee. She was only convicted of lying to police about Caylee’s disappearance. See the video.
Ironically, Casey’s lies may have contributed to her acquittal for the killing. Caylee’s remains weren’t recovered for months. By then, there was little evidence of how she died. Anthony was released from jail on Sunday, July 17th.
Since it was such a high profile case, fueled by intense media coverage, Casey received death threats. It’s unclear where she is now, but it will be hard for her to hide since her face was all over television.
- If you met Casey Anthony on the street, what would you say or do?
- Does the government have a duty to protect a woman who might have gotten away with murder?
- Television was permitted extensive access to the trial. Did cameras in the courtroom contribute to the open hatred for Casey?
- If you were on the jury and agreed that the prosecution didn’t prove its case, how would you feel about returning a ‘not guilty’ verdict?
