A Book By its Cover

Posted on: February 15th, 2017 by Larry

librarybooksThey say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. That’s certainly the case with Malcolm Mitchell. He’s a gifted athlete, who applied himself to become something more–a voracious reader. Take a look at his story, then talk about Malcolm’s determination with your family at dinner tonight:

  • Were there ever people you judged by how they looked or what they did or where they came from and were surprised by something you discovered about them?
  • Malcolm says football came naturally to him, but he had to work hard to become a reader. What does it mean to you when you work hard to accomplish something?
  • Is there something you might be able to do better if you really worked at it?
  • Malcolm has become a role model for children because of his reading. He and other athletes are often held up as role models for their abilities on the field or court. Do professional athletes have a responsibility to set a good example?
