Working with Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

This September, The Family Dinner Project is pleased to be partnering with the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.

Family dinners are beneficial to everyone, regardless of age or family status, and we are committed to helping all caregivers have more frequent and meaningful meals with the children in their homes. Providing support and resources to grandparents who have taken on the responsibility of raising their grandchildren is of particular importance right now, as the numbers of children being raised by custodial grandparents have risen across the country. In 2015, 2.9 million children in America were being raised by grandparents; 21 percent of those households were below the poverty line.

Through our work with Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, The Family Dinner Project will be providing an overview of benefits of family dinners, tips and resources to facilitators in the Boston area who work directly with grandparent-headed families. Our goal is to assist them in learning new techniques and ideas that can be passed on through future trainings and workshops with grandparents, as well as to provide immediate resources to distribute to families who may benefit from help with family dinners.

We look forward to embarking on this new partnership with Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and connecting more deeply with grandparents who are bringing up a new generation of children around their dinner tables.
