Dinner Tonight: Budget Friendly

Dinner Tonight: Budget Friendly Shopping List: Week of October 22, 2018

Print Shopping List » Back to Your Week »

Dear Friend,

Here is your weekly meal plan and shopping list!

This week, you’ll see a five-pound bag of potatoes on the shopping list. We’ve added that quantity because Monday’s potato soup recipe calls for five medium sized potatoes, which could equal 2 pounds or more; then we’ve added potatoes to the menu as a side dish for Thursday night, estimating that you’ll need at least a pound depending on how many people are in your family and what their appetites are like. A 5-lb. bag will cover your needs for both nights and probably leave a few potatoes leftover for other uses. However, you might also have some rice in your pantry that you’d prefer to serve with Thursday’s chicken dish. If that’s the case, then you can buy just 5 medium potatoes this week for the soup and adjust your meal plan accordingly.

The French Toast recipe for Friday night calls for brioche or challah bread, but it would be equally good with any kind of bread you like that fits within your budget! Also, the bag of shredded cheddar cheese on this list should be more than enough for the French Toast and the burrito recipe. If you have more than you need, you can always sprinkle some of the extras on top of your potato soup.

Lastly, the potato soup recipe includes an optional cilantro garnish. We’ve omitted that as fresh cilantro can be expensive and you may not find another use for it, but if you’d prefer to add it and can work it into your budget, you should do so!

Please note that the recipes provided may serve different numbers of people. The shopping list is built from the recipes, so depending on the size of your family, you may need more or less of some ingredients. Remember to check the serving sizes before you shop so you can adjust your list to work for your family!
