This is the third installment in The Family Dinner Project’s Family Picnic series. We’re seeking new ways to help families enjoy their time together this summer as everyone adjusts to different levels of social distancing. We hope you’ll follow along on our Family Picnics page and make a weekly family picnic — whether it’s for lunch or dinner, on a weekend or weeknight — part of your summer routine.
This Week’s Family Picnic Menu
This week’s family picnic menu has a Southwestern flair, plus a banana dessert that’s an old campfire favorite! This entirely meatless menu is budget-friendly, too. We recommend making the filling for the Fiesta Wraps ahead of time if you can, so your picnic is as easy to assemble as it is fun.
Nobody will miss the meat in these flavor-packed Fiesta Wraps, filled with quinoa, beans, cheese and vegetables! Although the recipe recommends serving them hot, they’re also good at room temperature, so feel free to make them ahead of time as needed.
We featured this avocado salad recipe in our book Eat, Laugh, Talk: The Family Dinner Playbook, and it’s a great side dish for any picnic or summer meal.
If you have a backyard grill or fire pit, Banana Boats are the perfect sweet treat to end your picnic. You can also pop them in the oven for 10 minutes at 375 degrees — they’ll still taste great!
Fun
Indoors or outdoors, this tricky memory game can’t be beat! Close your eyes and challenge each other to remember the details of your surroundings.
