The Bank Robber’s Dilemma

money

Last week a Michigan man robbed a bank and claimed he needed the money to pay for his young daughter’s chemotherapy. After reading the story or watching the video, choose from the conversation starters below to spark a conversation at the table tonight:

Do you think Brian Randolph is telling the truth about why he robbed the bank?

Is it ever OK for someone to steal from another person? Do you think the fact that Brian’s daughter has cancer in this story make it OK? Why or why not?

Can you think of anything Brian might have done instead of robbing the bank to help his daughter?

Has anyone ever stolen something from you? What was it and how did you feel?

Have you ever stolen something from someone else? Or wanted to? If you didn’t do it, what stopped you?

The character Robin Hood is famous for stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Is that a good reason to steal? Explain your answer.
