Getting Ready for #GivingTuesday

As Thanksgiving and the winter holidays approach, it seems that everyone is focused on issues of giving and getting. Wish lists, gift guides, and holiday sales are all around us. But at this hectic gift-giving time of year, it can be difficult to slow down and reflect on the real meaning of giving – what it is to give of your time, talents and resources to make the world a better place.

#GivingTuesday is a national campaign aimed at encouraging us all to expand our giving consciousness beyond items we can wrap in shiny paper. Each year, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (this year, December 2) is established as a “day of giving,” when we can all counteract the cultural messages of Black Friday and Cyber Monday by focusing our efforts on doing good for others. Last year, The Family Dinner Project partnered with #GivingTuesday to provide families with resources to help inspire acts of giving, and we’re proud to announce that we’ll be a part of the campaign again this year. Each Tuesday between Thanksgiving and the New Year, The Family Dinner Project will be posting tips and resources for families of all shapes and sizes to help get everyone in on the giving action. We’ll also be unveiling a social media photo sharing challenge called #familydinnerforward, which we hope you’ll all take part in as a way to record the good work you do and to help inspire others. Keep watching this space and make sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest for more updates as the big day approaches.
